Recycling
Electronics Companies Heed Your Calls for Action
Recently, in response to your emails, calls, and faxes, and continued pressure by the Computer TakeBack Campaign, both Apple and Dell have recently announced major improvements in their programs to offer recycling for their obsolete computers and other electronics products.
This week, Dell announced that they are significantly improving their takeback program, by offering free recycling of any Dell product, worldwide. Dell's old program was free only if you were buying a new Dell computer, and was only available in certain countries. Dell will continue to take back other manufacturers products for free when you purchase a new Dell computer.
This spring, Apple Computer announced that it would offer free takeback and recycling of old computers to consumers who buy new Macs at Apple stores or through their online store. Last year, it began to offer free recycling of iPods at its Apple stores.
Thanks to your activism, the electronics corporations are moving towards taking responsibility for their e-waste. Yet, Apple continues to lobby against e-waste legislation, like its recent opposition to a Washington state e-waste bill, and others are not doing all they could to recycle their electronic products. The Computer TakeBack will continue to target these corporations to take more responsibility to stem the growing tide of toxic e-waste.
